FAQ

How is Australian income tax calculated for 2026-27?

Resident tax is nil up to $18,200, then 15c per $1 to $45,000, $4,020 plus 30c to $135,000, $31,020 plus 37c to $190,000, and $51,370 plus 45c above that. The Medicare levy of 2% is on top.

What is the Low Income Tax Offset?

Up to $700 off your tax if taxable income is $66,667 or less: the full $700 up to $37,500, then it falls 5c per $1 to $45,000, then 1.5c per $1 until it reaches zero at $66,667. It can only reduce tax to nil.

How does the Medicare levy work?

2% of taxable income. Singles on low incomes pay less: nothing at or below $28,011 and 10c per $1 above that until $35,013. This tool uses the thresholds the ATO has published, which are the 2025-26 figures.

Is superannuation included?

No. Employer super is paid on top of or within your package depending on your contract, and is not part of your take-home pay here. Enter your salary excluding super.

What does this not include?

Medicare levy surcharge, HELP/HECS repayments, other offsets, family-based Medicare reductions, non-resident or working holiday maker rates, and part-year residency. Use the ATO's own calculators for those.

Is this affiliated with the ATO?

No. It is an independent educational estimate. Your result may differ from payslips because of PAYG withholding rules.
